What Is The Role of Deionised Water In Maintaining Lead Acid Batteries?

Deionised Battery Water

Because you understand they're an investment, why not treat them well and make the most of their lifespan? All battery maintenance steps are crucial, and you should not skip any of them.

It's best to use distilled or deionised battery water instead of regular tap water because it doesn't contain any extra minerals. Batteries' life can be drastically shortened by adding chemicals or minerals. Deep cycle batteries should only be refilled with distilled water. Battery life can be shortened if you add more acid or electrolyte solutions.

You can get filtered water for a low price at any grocery store. Bring your container to Colorado Golf & Turf, and we'll provide free distilled water for you to use. Battery fill bottles can be purchased at a local auto parts store or right here in our parts department, or a clean squeezable sports water bottle works great. You will get plenty of deionised water benefits. Here Are A Few More Battery-Care Hints For You –

First, Make Sure Your Battery Is Clean-

  • When working with batteries, make sure you have on safety glasses and rubber gloves.
  • Remove the solution from the battery terminals by rinsing thoroughly. Do not let the solution touch the battery.

Do an Electrolyte Level Check on Every Battery (every one to two weeks)-

  • Except if they are "dry" and the plates are exposed, batteries should constantly be recharged AFTER a full charge. Alternatively, fill only the top of the leaves with water, as this is the bare minimum.
  • Make a final check after the batteries have been fully charged and add water if necessary.

Put The Batteries In The Device-

  • Do not use anything other than distilled water for the reasons stated above!
  • Fill the fill well with water until the electrolyte level is 1/8′′ below the bottom.
  • Batteries should not be over-charged. The electrolyte solution can spill when batteries are overfilled and then charged. If the answer is not thoroughly rinsed from the skin, it can be harmful.
  • Ensure that the area around the battery cells has been thoroughly cleaned of any spills.
  • Make sure that the battery isn't contaminated by anything else.
  • The batteries should have their caps replaced.

To Sum It Up

It's also possible to purchase battery-watering systems or single-point watering systems (SPWS) to make this process easier. To use them, you place a pump in a container of distilled water and have it simultaneously pumped water into each battery, stopping the pump when the batteries are the proper height above their plates.
